Efficiency and transparency are the main themes of the latest Serbian National Judicial Reform Strategy, which aims to provide the country with equal and accessible justice for all.
The 2013 strategy follows the controversial judicial reforms of 2010, court case backlogs and a re-election process for judges that led to public distrust of the courts and the judiciary.
To help the Serbian judiciary combat the backlog and increase public trust and confidence, the USAID Separation of Powers Program (SPP) developed the National Backlog Reduction Plan, helped partner courts create Public Trust and Confidence Plans, and assisted the High Court Council in developing a Communications Strategy.
To prepare the courts for these innovations, the High Court Council asked USAID SPP to share the program details at the October 2013 National Judges Conference in Vrnjacka Banja. More information
